Employing in excess of 400 people, Alcan Packaging Cumbria continues to support the locality just as it has since it began its life as ‘Smith Brothers’ in 1880.

Alcan Packaging Cumbria, based in Salterbeck, is a business unit of Alcan Packaging – Food Europe, the European leaders in flexible packaging for the food and beverage market, operating from 31 plants in 18 countries and employing 6,500 people.

Alcan Packaging Cumbria supplies major household brands such as Walkers, Nestlé, McVities and growing companies such as AG Barrs, Stream Foods and Morning Foods.

Each year Alcan Packaging Cumbria recruits talented young Print Apprentices and in 2010 we hope to see fresh new talent applying to join our scheme. There are 18 young men and women currently training with Alcan Packaging Cumbria, learning many new skills throughout the three year, work-based, apprenticeship.

The successful recruits will learn how to run the huge printing presses, have on site technical training and will attend residential training courses at Leeds City College Print Academy throughout the three years.
